A Healthy New Start

Posted by: Gill Piltz | May 14, 2010 | No Comment |

Ever since coming back from March break I have felt that I could be leading a much healthier life with a few easy adjustments.  For the past two weeks I have taken on a personal challenge that will hopefully carry out for a life time. I decided to make this change because I couldn’t handle waking up tired every single day, getting red spots on my face, and having my hair feel so dry day after day.  I could feel that my body needed to be reenergized and I found the perfect way to fix that.

My mom has always nagged me to take omega 3’s and vitamin D every day and that everyone should be taking it but I just thought it was another silly thing she herd while watching doctor OZ.  Then I realized that vitamin D and omega 3’s are both bro biotic vitamins that are vital for our bodies and ones that we don’t get enough of.  Vitamin D is a source of sun, without vitamin D you will not be able to intake vitamin C, which is very important for your body.  You should also be taking omega 3’s, Omega 3 has many benefits like lowering your blood pressure, an Improve in memory, keeping you concentrated, Keeps skin healthy and vital and fighting aging, Reduce the risk of heart attack, Lower the risk for some cancers, can be helpful in pregnancy, Improve your mood and fight depression, Strengthen your immune system and Helps the body to maintain its temperature. All these benefits are good for your body and you can keep yourself healthy by taking omega 3’s once a day.  After taking these vitamins once daily for a month I have felt a huge improvement in the way I feel and I truly believe these vitamins have helped because I am feeling on top of the world.

I am sure you have all heard the song “I believe” sang by Nikki Yanofsky’s if not once at least twenty times a day especially if you have been watching the Olympics.  It has been the number 1 song on iTunes for 13 straight days it is a very up lifting song that everyone seems to love. The song is the Canadian anthem for the broadcast consortium, led by CTV. It’s a great song, about “believing in the power of you and I”. Grammatically it should be sung as “believing in the power of you and me”. This has been a very controversial topic because it is symbolizing Canada and the Olympics. The song has been playing at our school for a couple of days now… and aren’t they supposed to be teaching us how to use proper grammar?  But I do love the song.

I don’t understand how someone can get that wrong you might not be grammatically literate but we have something today called spell check which also fixes grammar mistakes, I have typed the line “you and I” and a green line underlines “I” telling me to change it to “me” it’s that easy. The reason why “believing in the power of you and I” is not correct is because you can’t believe in “I” you believe in “me”.  So did the person who wrote the lyrics know that it was grammatically incorrect but thought “you and I” sounded better then “you and me” well who knows? Do you think that this grammatically incorrect line is a big deal? Or is it a good song and no one cares? Well many people do not like how this is grammatically incorrect and think it is putting across the wrong message.  As Bruce Cheadle from the Canadian Press says “Yanofsky’s vocals are flawless, but not the lyrics” this is true Nikki sang beautifully and that song is a huge phenomenon and to me that’s all that matters.

Posted by: Gill Piltz | February 10, 2010 | No Comment |

Now that exams are finally over and things are going back to normal I can start writing to you again….

Everyone must know that on Friday the 12th the Olympics are starting in Vancouver.  My favorite sport to watch is snowboarding, just because I can appreciate it as a snowboarder. But there might be a major upset in the sport for the 2010 winter Olympics; pro snowboarder Shaun White has taken a bad fall at the X-games and who knows if he is going to recover and be able to participate in the Olympics.

During practice on Friday for the winter X games Shaun White took a bad fall during practice. Shaun the famous snowboarded miss his landing on the Double McTwist 1260 on the halfpipe, causing his helmet to go flying and his face to scratch against the icy wall. Thank fully Shaun got up and took home the gold medal in the 2010 winter X games, and we will be seeing him compete at the Olympics. I wish him all the best and good luck.

Shaun White crashes and hits his face on ice! (X-Games)

Store favorites from amazing to ok…

1. Forever 21

2. H&M

3. Urbun outfitters

4. American apparel

5. Zara

All these stores are great places if you need the hot new fashion items for a cheap price.

  1. Forever 21 always has a great jean selection and cool shirts from prices ranging from 15 dollars to 30.
  2. H&M is always crazy place to walk into with clothing flying all over but if you search hard enough you can find some great steals.
  3. Urban is downtown and always a fun atmosphere there style is very bohemian you can find some very chic stuff there for a bit more money the forever 21 but not ridicules.
  4. American apparel is always a great place to go for the basic tees and sweatshirts but you can also find some very funky unique clothing in many colors, with an ok price range I think some of the stuff is overpriced but you will for sure get your money’s worth because you will always be wearing the comfy clothes.
  5. Zara is a bit more sophisticated style but you can find clothing more sophisticated and some younger clothing and the price range is reasonable. If you are looking for your winter wardrobe for sure to check out some of these stores, they will be worth your time and you will be very satisfied.

Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson’s movie THIS IS IT came out October 9th 2009, only out for 2 weeks. The heading is “discover the man you never knew”

Would you go see this movie? And do you want to discover the man you never knew? Can it be better than the man we did know? All the accusation people made about him, was it true? Will this movie be a good way to remember Michael?

I think that this movie will be a good way to remember him by showing him in a positive light and all the amazing things he accomplished his moves his music and his incredible voice.

Michael Jackson was a legend but he was for sure different from our typical person there was much skepticism about him with little children and everyone always talked about all the work he had done but at the same time his music was unreal. His death surprised many. I feel bad for his kids because they will grow up without a father and have people judging them for their father’s mistakes.

I hope this movie will make people realize how great Michael was and how much talent he had.

RIP. Michael

Who I met…

           Gossip-Girl       Georgina

Two weekends ago, I ventured to New York with my best friend Lexi my mom and hers. You will not believe who we “bumped” into. If you’re a gossip girl fan you better stop everything your doing and read my blog because it’s about to get really interesting.

I was in New York for 3 days we arrived Friday and on Saturday we went for lunch at Saks fifth avenue on the 8 floor and then went down to the 4th to do some damage, but my mom realized that she lost her phone we had to go back up to the 8th floor and right when we steeped off the elevator we saw a tall blonde chick standing looking at the shoes. I turned the corner and got a glimpse of her face and saw Blake lively she WAS my idol I loved her attitude and style. We wanted to get a picture with her so badly so we just strolled around her for a while and finally went up to her and asked her for a picture. Her mother gave us the one second finger so we backed up and respected her space. Then he body guard asked if we could please move back some more then we got really mad was she really that famous that no one could talk to her, we weren’t crazy stalkers we were shopping just like she was. She finally turned around and talked to us for a quick 5 seconds. I wasn’t impressed she wasn’t nice at all. Then I thought to myself well I am sure she is harassed all day long she is only a person, then I thought well us girls are what makes her famous so she shouldn’t be so cold to her fans, i have herd this befor from many other people.

After we got over that little disappointment we were having dinner at the Charles restaurant in the west village a very small exclusive Italian place where we were meeting with some friends. I stopped the cab jumped out and saw Leighton Meester and Michelle Trachtenberg chilling out side. We went inside all excited we were meeting two more gossip girls Blair and Georgina, my friend Lex was a huge Blair fan. We went in and sat down they walked bye us going to there table in the back it was Michelle’s birthday. We also just wanted to say hi to them, so my moms friend took us over to them and we got to talk to them they were so nice and it truly made my trip fantastic. So we realized that yeah they are famous and some famous people might be stuck up like Blake lively but some can be really nice and appreciate there fans, after all there fans are how the get famous. That’s my gossip for the day.

 You known you love me,

Xoxo
